Client troubleshooting
The baseline
OSR requires Windows 10 20H2 or newer, run as administrator, and
without any compatibility mode. If even one of those is wrong you will get
0xc0000005 errors, hangs and crashes - and the Repair Tool will not help, because
it only restores modified files.
Never put a d3d9.dll in the root directory as a compatibility fix. It helps on
other servers and causes nothing but trouble here. There is one deliberate
exception, at the end of this page.
The game will not start
- Run as administrator, no compatibility mode
- Install Visual C++ Redistributable x86 and x64 and DirectX 9.0c. The redistributables also ship with the client, in the Common directory
- Run the Repair Tool - put it in the game folder and run it as admin
- Crash right after picking a gear? Run the Repair Tool, you have a missing or corrupt file
- Add OSR to your antivirus exceptions - Defender and Avast both cause a long white screen after PLAY
"Hacking tool detected"
Uninstall CheatEngine and similar tools, and disable any macro software.
If you get anticheat code AC0070000 with a process ID, that process is a
disallowed app - close it from Task Manager. For Armoury Crate you may have to
uninstall it outright.
Kicked a few seconds after logging in
Give the game full administrator rights, then force the last update again:
- Create a desktop shortcut for the game
- Right-click it, Properties, Advanced, tick Run as administrator, then OK / Apply / OK
- Open VersionInfo.ver in the client folder with a text editor
- Find ClientVersion 3.7.2.xx and lower the last two digits by 10 or 15 - for example 3.7.2.41 becomes 3.7.2.26
- Save and restart the game from the shortcut
Cannot save the file? Copy it to your desktop, edit it there, and copy it back.
You can also update the client manually.
Auto-update keeps failing
Check your firewall and antivirus - something is blocking the executables from
connecting.
FPS is capped at 60 even with VSync off
Open EvoConfig.ini in the client root and change LimitFPS=60 to LimitFPS=0 for
uncapped, or to whatever value you want. Same trick as above if you cannot save in
place: edit on the desktop and copy back.
Mobs invisible for a while after entering a map
Enable V-Sync, or cap FPS at 100.
Cannot see weapons or skills on other gears
Set Eff Detail to 2 or higher in the in-game settings panel.
Blurry on a high-DPI or 4K screen
Right-click the shortcut, Properties, Compatibility, and set the DPI property to
System (advanced). This also improves FPS. On a 4K screen with DPI at 200 %,
pick 1920x1080 in the launcher.
Frequent crashes and disconnect chains
There is a DLL that emulates DirectX through Vulkan instead, which has fixed
repeated crash chains for many players and can add a few FPS. Drop the d3d9.dll
into the OSR home folder and start the game. Some players have problems with it -
it costs nothing to test, and uninstalling is just deleting the file again.
Download is too slow
Use one of the mirrors - MEGA, Google Drive or the OSR server. They
are the same client as the official link.
